Course Description

The goal of this class is to study why extreme poverty, along with child mortality, low-levels of education, gender inequality, high fertility, child labor, and other woes are pervasive in the developing world. What distortions, market failures and institutional failures, hinder households’ quest to improve their wellbeing? in addition, it is important to know the steps, especially in the economy level, have to be taken in order to improve the people’s wellbeing.

  • Discuss the importance of economic development for the world and how this has changed over the past decades.
  • Use an analytical framework to examine contemporary international economic issues.
